  • Folktales behind the inspiration: Manasa, the snake goddess, is a revered deity in Bengal and the central figure of Manasa Mangal Kavya, a medieval Bengali legend. The story revolves around her conflict with Chand Saodagar, a staunch Shiva devotee who refused to worship her. In retaliation, Manasa killed his six sons and sank his fleet. Despite his wife’s devotion, Chand resisted until Manasa killed his youngest son, Lakhindar. His wife, Behula, journeyed to heaven to revive him. Eventually, after many trials, Chand was compelled to accept Manasa’s worship.
